Paclitaxel Description
Paclitaxel is a monomer diterpenoids extracted from the bark of taxus, a natural plant. It is a complex secondary metabolite and the only drug known to promote microtubule polymerization and stabilize the polymerized microtubule.
Isotopic tracers showed that paclitaxel only binds to polymerized microtubules and does not react with unpolymerized microtubulin dimers.
When cells come into contact with the Chemicalbook of paclitaxel, they accumulate a large number of microtubules inside the cells. The accumulation of these microtubules interferes with various functions of the cells, especially stopping cell division during the mitotic phase and blocking normal cell division.
Through the Ⅱ - Ⅲ clinical research, paclitaxel is mainly suitable for ovarian cancer and breast cancer, to lung cancer, colorectal cancer, melanoma, head and neck cancer, lymphoma, brain tumors also has certain curative effect.

Paclitaxel  Function

1. Paclitaxel is a mitotic inhibitor drup used in the treatment of cancer.
2. Isolated the compound from the bark of the Pacific yew tree, Taxus brevifolia, and noted its antitumor activity in a broad range of rodent tumors.
3. Paclitaxel has since become an effective tool of doctors who treat patients with lung, ovarian, breast cancer, and advanced
forms of Kaposi's sarcoma.
4. Paclitaxel is also used for the prevention of restenosis (recurrent narrowing) of coronary stents; locally delivered to the wall of the coronary artery, a paclitaxel coating limits the growth of neointima (scar tissue) within stents.
